“Foreign products originating from ASEAN countries are slightly more expensive than Vietnam but up to 30% cheaper than imported cakes from Europe. Therefore, if I used to import 20% of European products, now I gradually replace them with ASEAN products, sometimes even doubling as expected because of an increase in the number of orders,” Loan said.

A small trader named Hoa added that the reason foreign confectionery is increasingly attractive is partly due to good discounts and promotions. There is a discount of 5-10%. “Some cakes in large boxes are often given small boxes for sellers to try. Sometimes we even take advantage of gifts for retail when taking large quantities. For example, chocolate waffles, a large box costs 90,000 VND, but if you give a small plastic box, you can separate it and retail it for 2,500 VND,” said Hoa.
